VIDEODANZA EN LA UNAM

En esta ocasión me gustaría hablarles de mi experiencia en el 1er Coloquio Universitario de Danza y Filosofía organizado por el Colegio de Filosofía y el Colegio de Literatura Dramática y Teatro de la UNAM, al que tuve la fortuna de ser invitado, junto con Diana Palacio, quien es una reconocida bailarina y profesora del Departamento de Artes Escénicas de la Universidad de Antioquia, para presentar una ponencia titulada La danza contemporánea como nueva forma de conocimiento y experimentación creativa, donde discutimos a fondo el modo en que la danza contemporánea se constituye como un tipo particular de experimentación interdisciplinaria, que revela nuevas formas de conocimiento y experimentación creativa, teniendo como base el cuerpo y sus múltiples lecturas, tanto en las artes escénicas, como en el resto de las disciplinas artísticas. Con esta finalidad revisamos detenidamente la propuesta coreográfica de bailarines como Isadora Duncan, Merce Cunningham, Jiry Kylián y Philippe Decouflé, resaltando el modo en que su particular concepción del cuerpo y la danza ha alterado los paradigmas culturales y cognitivos, dando lugar a nuevas posibilidades creativas.

De este modo analizamos una selección de coreografías y montajes escénicos de los bailarines mencionados, enfatizando las características de las secuencias de movimiento, el espacio escénico, la composición musical, el diseño del vestuario, el empleo de la iluminación, así como otras formas de concebir el movimiento, a partir del contacto con otros cuerpos y objetos, lo que deviene en nuevas relaciones espaciales y experiencias dancísticas. Esto nos lleva a una comprensión e interpretación del mundo y de los otros, donde no se da prioridad a un solo medio, ni a un solo campo del conocimiento, sino que se enfatiza la experimentación simultánea entre disciplinas, lo que a su vez genera un nuevo tipo de conexiones e interacciones entre el público y los bailarines.

Además durante dicho encuentro fuimos invitados para llevar a cabo el Laboratorio Creativo: Cuerpo e Imagen en Movimiento, que realizamos en el Centro Cultural Universitario de la UNAM, que es un espacio de convergencia, tránsito e intercambio cultural muy interesante del campus universitario. Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de realizar el Laboratorio Creativo en este lugar consiste en que es un espacio arquitectónico y escultórico lleno de explanadas, escaleras, barandas, puentes, edificios interconectados, fuentes, así como jardines con variadas plantas y árboles. Realmente se trata de un espacio muy agradable que incita a realizar exploraciones creativas, además de que posee una innegable carga simbólica, pues es un sitio de encuentro de los habitantes de la Ciudad de México y no solamente de los universitarios.

En esta ocasión, llevamos a cabo el Laboratorio Creativo en dos jornadas distintas, en la primera parte trabajamos con una serie de referentes visuales sobre la Videodanza y planteamos cuestionamientos teóricos muy puntuales sobre la configuración de este lenguaje artístico. Para finalizar el primer día, llevamos a cabo una intervención en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, buscamos un espacio que suele ser muy transitado, en unas escaleras que se dirigen de un nivel inferior a un nivel superior, rumbo a la Facultad y a la Biblioteca Central. La intervención consistió en explorar, junto con los participantes, ese espacio de tránsito, en acercarse a él desde diversos ángulos y habitarlo de una forma inusual, partiendo de la estructura arquitectónica y del propio cuerpo. Lo más interesante de dicho momento fue la forma en que los transeúntes se incorporaban de manera espontánea e inusitada a las coreografías y secuencias de movimiento que desarrollaron los participantes.

La segunda parte del Laboratorio Creativo la llevamos a cabo en el Centro Cultural Universitario, realizando una serie de ejercicios para activar el cuerpo y los sentidos, también incluimos algunos elementos de la llamada arquitectura móvil, que consiste en involucrar el juego con el peso y contrapeso como base de movimiento en un espacio determinado. De este modo intervinimos varios espacios significativos del Centro Cultural, permitiendo que cada uno de los participantes se apropiara de manera personal del lugar y a su vez llevaran a cabo un proyecto grupal. Toda esta experiencia dio como resultado la creación de una serie de videodanzas colectivos muy significativos, trabajando diversos temas de interés de los participantes. Aquí les comparto la conferencia, así como algunas imágenes de los diversos momentos del taller y algunos videos realizados directamente por los participantes, espero los disfruten.

I would like to talk about the experience of my participation at the 1st University Symposium of Dance and Philosophy, organized by the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Dramatic Literature and Theater of the National University of México (UNAM). In this occasion I presented a coauthored lecture with Diana Palacio, who is a very talented Professional Dancer and Professor at the Department of Scenic Arts of Universidad de Antioquia. The title of the lecture was The contemporary dance as a new form of knowledge and creative experimentation, where we discussed how the contemporary dance constitutes itself as a particular way of interdisciplinary though, that reveals new ways of knowledge and creative experimentation, taking as reference the conception of the body and tis multiple lectures, trough different art disciplines. With this goal in mind we analyzed the choreographic proposal of Isadora Duncan, Merce Cunningham, Jiry Kylián and Philippe Decouflé, showing how their particular conception of dance and body changed the cultural and cognitive paradigms, and generated new creative possibilities.

On this lecture we analyzed a selection of choreographies and scenic montages from the dancers mentioned above, emphasizing the characteristics of the movement sequences, the scenic space, the musical composition, the clothes designs, the use of lights, and the contact with other bodies and objects that are translated into new spatial and dance relations. This theoretical approach allows a deep comprehension and interpretation of the world and the others, making possible a transdisciplinary epistemology and a convergence between different art fields, which generates a new kind of interaction between the audience and the dancers.

We also were invited to realize the Creative Laboratory: Body and Image in Movement, and we developed it in the Cultural Center from the National University of Mexico (UNAM), which is a place of cultural convergence on campus. One of the most interesting things of doing the workshop there was that it is an architectural space with lots of stairs, banisters, bridges, interconnected buildings, fountains, and gardens with lots of trees and flowers. It is a place that stimulates the creative exploration; it also has a profound symbolic meaning and allows the encounter of the habitants of Mexico City, not only the students.

In this occasion, Diana and I realized the Creative Laboratory in two different days, on the first one, we show a series of visual referents from Videodance and established theoretical inquiries around the configuration of this artistic language, making place for a discussion about it. Then we made an intervention of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature, we searched a transited place and we found some stairs that goes from a low level to a high one, and arrive to the Faculty and the Central Library. The exercise consisted in an exploration of this transited space, and each of the participants approached to it in different perspectives and unusual ways of moving on it. The most interesting result of this exploration was that the people that use to transit this place incorporated themselves in a spontaneous way through the choreographies and movement sequences of the participants.

The second day of the Creative Laboratory was realized in the Cultural Center from the university, where we realized several exercises for activating the body and all the senses, including a dance technique called move architecture, which includes the use of the weight and the counterweight as a key for moving in a particular place. Then the participants explored different places of the Cultural Center, appropriated of them in a personal way and developed a collective project. The result of all this was the construction of a series of very interesting Videodances, where the participants developed their own inquiries.
